چکیده

Although DBMS (Database Management Systems) are often hidden for a user, they are a part of many applications utilized in day-by-day life. In general, we can suppose two main types of DBMS: OLTP (On-Line Transaction Processing) and OLAP (On-Line Analytical Processing). We can also distinguish another classification related to the connection of a client and DBMS: client-server and embedded DBMS. The embedded DBMS enable to achieve the maximum performance since an often slow network connection is not used. As a result, they are utilized by in-memory computations where the maximum throughput is required. Although it seems that a lot of high quality DBMS exist and another DBMS are not required, there is not a system to meet all demands of the real world. In this paper, we introduce our prototype of embedded database system called QuickDB. We show that it includes a wide variety of data structures and it provides more efficient performance in many cases compared to up-to-date (embedded) DBMS.

A Survey of New Directions in Database System

As database system research evolves, there are several enduring themes. One, of course, is how we deal with the largest possible amounts of data. A less obvious theme is optimization — it is an essential ingredient of all modern forms of database system. Because we deal with large volumes of data, we are often forced to process that data in regular ways. But when operations are uniform, there i...

Software Design Approaches for Mastering Variability in Database Systems

For decades, database vendors have developed traditional database systems for different application domains with highly differing requirements. These systems are extended with additional functionalities to make them applicable for yet another data-driven domain. The database community observed that these “one size fits all” systems provide poor performance for special domains; systems that are ...

CMDB - Yet Another MIB? On Reusing Management Model Concepts in ITIL Configuration Management

According to ITIL, a CMDB (Configuration Management Database), containing a logical model of the IT infrastructure, forms the basis for effective and efficient IT Service Management. However, a common understanding of what constitutes a CMDB has not yet been established. By contrast, concepts for building and using MIBs (Management Information Base) – also aimed at providing logical models of t...

Current Approaches to XML Management

The Extensible Markup Language has become the standard for information interchange on the Web. Developed primarily as a document markup language more powerful than HTML yet less complex than SGML, XML does not require content to adhere to structural rules. XML gives a single, human-readable syntax for representing data, including data in relational format. Hence XML appeals to both the document...
